TIMBACLENE
Timbaclene is a powerful organic acid based cleaner that when correctly used,
helps restore old, oxidised timber,
or stained timber to an improved appearance,
suitable for coating with Timberglow products.
Exposed timber is attacked by UV rays, which cause depletion of lignins - the “glue” that holds wood together thereby allowing the degradation of
the outer surface cellulose structure, the other main component of wood.
The timber surface thus loses its' original colour and lustre and generally takes on a grey and dull appearance.
In this condition it becomes more friable, and susceptible to dirt pick up.
Cleaning the timber, especially on timber decks, is an essential part of the preparation for coating of the timber.
It removes dirt and any degraded powdery surface, so that the coatings are able to bond firmly with the cleaned surface.
SURFACE PEPERATION
Remove dust dirt and cobwebs from surfaces to be treated by normal cleaning methods, including washing/scrubbing down with water. Use of medium high pressure washing may be advantageous.
Where timber is too badly weathered it should be dressed and/or sanded back to a fresh surface before any further treatment.
In any event, timber that is to be cleaned with Timbaclene should be wet with water before applying application.
APPLICATION
Mix Timbaclene in its container with the lid on by vigorously shaking before making a 20% solution in water.
Using a plastic container, mix one (1) part Timbaclene to four (4) parts water, and wear goggles and impervious gloves whilst doing so.
Carry out the cleaning work section by section.
Scrub the mixture liberally to the surface with a stiff bristle brush and leave for about 15 minutes.
Flush off with fresh water, using garden hose or a high pressure cleaner if possible.
Move to next section and repeat the process.
Any areas that are severely stained may need a repeat application and/or a stronger Timbaclene solution.
In cases where an old coating has been allowed to deteriorate and expose patches of timber, apply Timbaclene judiciously to the affected timber only, and wash off thoroughly as described above after leaving for 15 minutes to react.
Tannin rich timbers may also require repeat applications, wash until the water used to rinse the Timbaclene off is clear
Thoroughly rinse off, preferably using high pressure water cleaner, or use a garden hose.
It is essential to wash off thoroughly as Timbaclene left on the surface may continue to react and leave a patchy appearance on
the final surface if a transparent (Timber Glow) finish is used.
Allow timber to dry through before applying Timber Glow coating system.
Avoid contact with metal surfaces and vegetation and rinse off such surfaces if contact does occur.
Clean equipment with water.
